The life with out parol is cruel and unusual punishment for some crimes that a child commits. Kids should not be tried as adults because they do not have the same rights as an adult. America is the only country who has over 2,000 kids in jail who are in life with out parol, and it also a problem that just in 2005 america made a law that juveniles can not receive the death penalty. For the same crimes an adult or a person over the age 18 adults who have taken part in the same crime a child under 18 receive lower sentence and are released one day earlier. This proves that children are treated with no care and that america just gives up on them , but when these kids should at least have a chance, because you do not know what they have been through, or why they committed the crime they did.
In the documentary in class the girl put her trust in man she met, because her mom was a drug addict, but the girl did not know that later on he would rape her, turn her into a prostitute and abuse her. So one day the girl "stood up" for herself and killed her pimp, or otherwise know as G.G. This girl was sent to jail at the age of 16 with out parol. I do agree that she does deserve punishment, and she agreed to that to, but now this girl is 29 years old and she has learned her lesson, and also just from hearing her story she should have not be sentenced life with out parol plus for years because she killed a man who was selling and raping her and other young girls.
America really needs to realize that the kids they are putting into jail do things for a reason, these young kids have not matured and do not understand the morals of life and I think the court system should really check every single detail on these kids such as how they grew up, why the did what they did, was it peer pressure, was it for their safety and they just did not know any other way out. The courts need to check these things and make realistic punishments for different crimes, such as if some young kids went around killing any and everyone of course he should be sent to jail for life with out parol because he is a threat to society, but if some girl or boy robs a bank at gun point they should not be sent to jail for life with out parol they should just be sent to jail for a long time so they will be able to learn their lesson.
The whole reason for jail is to help these criminals realize what they did is wrong, and to teach them their lesson, and I think after 20 years of being in jail for robbing someone is enough because by then you should know what you have done is wrong.
